Ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist that works differently from all other pain medications. At sub-anesthetic doses, it can reset chronic pain pathways in the nervous system, providing relief for conditions that have not responded to other treatments. DVPSI operates a full-service infusion center with physician-supervised IV ketamine protocols.

How It Works

Ketamine is administered intravenously at sub-anesthetic doses over 40 to 60 minutes in a monitored clinical setting. It blocks NMDA receptors in the spinal cord and brain, reducing central sensitization -- the process by which the nervous system becomes hypersensitive to pain signals. The number and frequency of infusions is determined individually based on your condition and response to treatment.

A comprehensive evaluation determines whether ketamine is appropriate for your condition and medical history.

Initial Series

Your infusion schedule is determined by Dr. Bromberg based on your condition and response to treatment. Each infusion takes approximately 2 hours in our monitored infusion center.

Monitoring

A physician supervises each infusion. Blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation are monitored throughout.

Maintenance

Maintenance infusions every 4 to 8 weeks help sustain pain relief for long-term responders.
